What is a certified translation?

In Germany, a certified translation is produced exclusively by a court-appointed and sworn translator and includes documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, contracts, all types of ID cards, documents, official certificates, school reports, university documents, etc. A certified translation certifies both the accuracy and completeness of the translation, stating the date, place and name (and contact details) of the translator in question, and is signed and sealed.
